Our Furniture
Chest of Drawers, Armoires, Cupboards, and other cabinets., in most cases can be constructed in any of the five styles highlighted below. Classic, well-proportioned, and ageless are characteristics inherited from craftsmen and artisans who've left a legacy of art in wood. They can all be attributed to the likes of Chippendale, Stickley, Sheraton, Hepplewhite, and the Shakers. From them we gain a heritage of furniture making which we’ve studied, revered, refined and reinterpret for today's lifestyles.
The Dovetail Case:
A traditional look, at home in a most any setting. Dovetailed cases feature bracket feet and moldings reminiscent of Chippendale styling. The case is constructed of solid panels, dovetailed on all four corners. Dust panels are installed between drawers. The dividers between drawers or drawers and doors are installed using pinned sliding or French dovetails adding to the strength of the case. Drawers are Dovetailed on all four corners with a 3/8" thick bottom. Drawers slide on hardwood runners. Standard #2 molding is added to the case at the bottom and #2 or #3 is added at the top . Other molding options are available. The case back is a 3/8” Veneered panel (wood to match case), mounted into rabbeted case sides with screws. Cases with bottoms feature a 1/2” veneered panel of matching wood secured to case interior with cleats. The case stands on 4 matching curved bracket feet assemblies. Each foot is constructed of two pieces of wood mitered and splined and strengthened with three screw blocks.
The Post and Panel Case:
Our contemporary interpretation of designs reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts period.
The case is constructed of corner posts and sides of solid panels set in rails and stiles. The panels ‘float’ in the rail and stile frame which is constructed using pinned mortise and tenon joints. The top is attached to the sides and back with metal clips which allow for expansion and contraction of the top panel. The top edge is hand eased. The dividers between drawers or drawers and doors are installed using pinned mortise and tenons adding to the strength of the case. There are no dust panels on these cases. Drawers are Dovetailed on all four corners with a 3/8" thick bottom. Drawers slide on hardwood runners. The case back is a 1/2” Veneered panel (wood to match case), tenoned into the posts and rails. Cases with bottoms feature a 1/2” veneered panel of matching wood secured to case interior with screws. A curved bottom rail at the base of the case adds decorative styling. The case can be further enhanced with optional detailing of raised panel sides as well as door and drawer options. Posts are standardly 1-3/4” square except on bookcases which are 1-1/2” square and they have a graceful taper on the bottom. A popular option for a Federal influence is the addition of our flare leg. A simple curve outward is addded to the bottom taper.
The Classic Case:
A more contemporary interpretation of our Post and Panel line. Simpler styling constructed with solid wood and veneered panels. Similar to the Post and Panel case, the case is constructed of corner posts tenoned to veneered side panels. The top is attached to the sides and back with metal clips which allow for expansion and contraction of the top panel. Top edge is finished with hand eased edges. The dividers between drawers or drawers and doors are installed using pinned mortise and tenon joints adding to the strength of the case. There are no dust panels on these cases. Drawers are Dovetailed on all four corners with a 3/8" thick bottom. Drawers slide on heavy duty full extension hardware. The case back is a 1/2” Veneered panel (wood to match case), tenoned into the posts and rails. Cases with bottoms feature a 1/2” veneered panel of matching wood secured to case interior with screws. Tapered legs are standard on the Classic cases. A n ogee rout toe kick base is an option and can add decorative styling. The Classic line offers a lower cost option complimentary to the Post and Panel style.
The New Eastern Case:
Asian influences are found in this elegant but timelss style. Constructed with solid wood and veneered panels. Gracefully flared legs are tenoned to veneered side panels. The solid wood top is beveled on the bottom edge and the front is gently bowed. The dividers between drawers or drawers and doors are installed using pinned mortise and tenon joints adding to the strength of the case. Drawers are dovetailed on all four corners with a 3/8" thick bottom. Drawers run on heavy duty full extension hardware. The case back is a 1/2” Veneered panel (wood to match case), tenoned into the posts and rails. Cases with bottoms feature a 1/2” veneered panel of matching wood secured to case interior with screws.
