MIT Hayden Science Library
While its students and alumni modestly quip that MIT is the “little technical school down the river from Harvard”, MIT is inarguably one of the most premier technology schools in the world. To furnish MIT’s landmark building – the Hayden Science Library – in a manner that befits their reputation, MIT hired avante garde interior design firm IOI. After gaining insight on the unique requirements set forth by the University, IOI turned to Dovetail to create a custom set of distinctive, modern furnishings within a demanding timeline and scant budget.

IOI envisioned a highly-engineered look for the furniture that integrated solid Maple with modern laminates, brushed aluminum and custom fabricated metal brackets. The library carrels also needed to support power and data to satisfy their laptop-toting library goers. To meet the project’s tight deadline, Dovetail engineered, built and delivered the library’s furnishings in an astounding six weeks.

The carrels and tables were in place for the opening day of the newly renovated library and have been appreciated by the students ever since. MIT library staff report that Dovetail’s contribution to their library has exceeded all expectations and applaud the responsiveness shown by Dovetail during the project and have subsequently reordered additional furniture for other areas.
